Netbooks??

Anyone can recommend a Netbook that is smaller than 12 to 10 inches? I'm looking for something small to carry round instead of an iPhone that I can fit in my glove box!

Keyboard - size doesn't matter to me that much.

Screen - Matt or Gloss, not really sure what I should look for here.

Webcam - Don't use these so I don't care.

Hard Drive - Storage is key, but I don't want to have to pay through the nose for it!

Ram/Memory - It seems like 1GB is relatively standard. I prefer to have the ability to go 2GB but I don't know enough about netbooks to whether it's by design. I have heard that some is soldered in and can't be upgraded. Is this true?

I don't care what colour it is etc etc.

Lastly, I should mention that I have heard the Lenovo netbooks are very good. Let me know your thoughts are about this. I might hag on if there's somethign else coming out.

Cheers

Re: Netbooks??

Found an Acer one in the BT shop for only £166 (OK it's a 'Refurb' but the reviews make me think this is a safe bet) which is £100 less than the cheapest Lenovo.

Almost went for the one at £120... but its only got a 8GB HD (half an iphone!) :-( So juging by the specs I'll be paying an extra £46 for a 160GB one, thats 20 times more!

Bosh... job done.

Re: Netbooks??

THe EEE 901 isn't bad at all, the only thing that lets it down is the storage. It lacks a hard drive an only has something like a 12GB solid state drive.

I got round this by taking a 80GB hard drive from an old laptop, adding a £7 USB enclosure to it and it makes the perfect extenal portable HD for using with the netbook.

The EEE is not a bad little device, but I couldn't use it as my full time machine!

Re: Netbooks??

I'd go for a Samsung one every time. They feel much less plasticy (if tha'ts a word!) than some of the cheaper models and the spec's are pretty good too!

Re: Netbooks??

There are two products within a new product group called SmartBooks that are due in the UK during September 2009.

NVIDIA is working closely with Microsoft, and is advocating Windows CE in preference to Google Android and they should have an 8.9inch display and full list of interfaces e.g. usb2, wifi etc - prices will be between £110 & £150 (manufacturers are yet to be announced)

also Archos is releasing their Archos9 product which will be  •High quality 9 inch resistive finger/stylus touch screen Operating system: Windows 7 Thin 0.63'‘; and lightweight - less than 800 grams Processor: Intel Atom Z515, wifi & HSDPA

hope that helps a touch.

similar products from Snapdragon http://www.hellosmartbook.com/index.html OR http://www.archos.com/products/nb/archos_9/index.html?country=dj&lang=en
