Using Windows Live Mail for BT Connect emails

[ Edited ]

Hi, I'm using the evaluation version of Windows 7 (build 7100), and Windows Live Mail (WLM)

I can successfully send and receive emails via WLM for my Hotmail account. For my BT account @btconnect.com, I can successfully receive emails however unable to send.

Config settings are:

POP3 - pop3.btconnect.com

SMTP - smtp.btconnect.com (also tried mail.btconnect.com - as advised via telephone support)

In the send/receive dialogue box - it simply states 'send message via btconnect' - however the messages never get sent.

If I close and re-open WLM, the error displayed is  0x800CCC7D

I can successfully telnet to smpt.btconnect.com, and have successfully sent a test message via telnet - so don't believe its a firewall issue

Any help would be welcomed.

Check if you have SSL turned on for the account in the mail client. If so, turn it off.

Hi there,

If you have outgoing authentication set up then disable it.

Thanks

Re: Using Windows Live Mail for BT Connect emails

Many thanks - turned off 'This server requires a secure connection' on the Advanced tab - outgoing mail (SMTP)

Can now successfully send from this profile.

Thanks again
