Thunderbird: outgoing messages "successfully sent" but don't reach addressee

I use Thunderbird email client.

It has been working fine for years (I am on the current version) until a week ago, when I learned that a large number of my emails are not reaching their destination.

  •  Thunderbird confirmed message sent successfully
  •  I accessed the BT web mail page and creating/sending emails from there works fine
  •  I receive incoming emails on Thunderbird without problem
  •  Secure Authentication is off (and always has been)
  •  I downloaded the BT Broadband Desktop Help but it refused to install (maybe because I am overseas and not using my bband telephone line installed in the UK)

Can anyone guide me on this please?

Hi,

There's a high likelihood that the emails are getting blocked by the recipient.

I would advise contacting the Technical Helpdesk through support@btbroadbandoffice.com with the following details:

For your set up:

- Name and version of the email client used

- Settings used, including username, servers, etc.

For the missing emails:

- From address

- To address

- Date and time sent

- Exact subject line

And please make sure that any examples are LESS THAN three days old (72 hours), and include more than one if possible.

Oh, and don't forget to include your account details and the answer to the security question on your account.

To be honest issues like this would have to go through the THD, mainly because they would have to escalate the issue to have the server logs checked.

Hope this helps.

Thanks OldWolf I will contact THD.

BTW, it is not just one person not receiving.  It seems that most, if not all, addressees did not get anything.

Cheers

Hi,

No problem.  Could be a bigger problem with the mail servers that hasn't spread far yet.

Cheers.

Re: Thunderbird: outgoing messages "successfully sent" but don't reach addressee

See the thread "Messages sent from btconnect disappear", two or three down from this one. The problem we are experiencing (still unresolved, and cause undetermined) may be the same as yours.

Our workaround is (short term) set up a temporary e-mail address on a provided that uses its own outgoung mail server, and send from that, and (long term) change our ISP!

Re: Thunderbird: outgoing messages "successfully sent" but don't reach addressee

Hello,

Many thanks to all of you for your responses.

BT could not help me because it seems my emails were not reaching their servers and, as a result, they could not trace them through their systems.

However, I realised that apart from my firewall and antivirus programmes, there is another programme I have running in the background: Onspeed.  This speeds up the transmission - important for me because I travel overseas quite a lot and have to use roving USB wireless connections which are only at 512kbps.

I closed down Onspeed and test emails immediately reached their destinations.

I contacted Onspeed on this and they responded with:

Please enable onspeed by click on start onspeed once you done please disable SMTP authentication while sending through ONSPEED (auth for outgoing emails) in your email client. Usually ONSPEED ignores this but in your case it appears to have problems with it.

I shall be trying this option because it will be good to have the internet connection enhanced.

Meanwhile, thanks again for your responses to my cry for help.  It is nice to know one is not alone in cyberspace!

Regards,

Nigel
