Re: No internet access one wired PC

It doesn't make sense to me either. Have you done a 'netstat -b' before and after the connection dies to see if you can identify what process it might be killing the connection?

Re: No internet access one wired PC

"netstat" is unavailable in the command prompt. I am now thinking a virus might be on the system. Will let you know once I have installed and run a virus scan.

Mmm...netstat not being there is quite unusual - do let us know the results of the virus scan. Do a spybot or similar check as well, it could be something hooking into your TCP stack.

Strange one.

After running scans etc. I'd recommend getting your Windows disk and running sfc /scannow from the command prompt to identify and replace any damaged system files.

Re: No internet access one wired PC

I might have missed which version of Windows you are running on the PC: is it XP, Vista or Windows 7?

Try opening a browser and typing the address of the router in the address bar:

for example http://192,168,1,254/

From there you might be able to modify the routers Firewall and check other setting.

From the first post in the thread: "Both PCs are running Windows XP Embedded."

I doubt it's a router configuration issue as the same problem has occurred with with two different makes/models of router.

Re: No internet access one wired PC

and the router firewall wont effect it since it works on the other pc. although outbound http access can be blocked its an on or off status. not per device like the inbound port forwarding

Re: No internet access one wired PC

Thanks for the list, the manufacturer is not listen.

Does anyone know if dodgy RAM could cause this sort of problem? I have been getting some Blue Screens of Death when the PC reboots, and have search - results have said that it can be RAM and/or motherboard issues. The system is about 2 years old now.

Any ideas?
