Can't get public access to our server

We have a small network based on a BT2700HGV router.  This includes a NAS server set up to allow ftp access with username and password.  I have set up the router with a pinhole to the server, using DMZplus, in order that I can access it from outside.  But if I list local network devices and look at the freeNAS server, it is shown "Off" and I can't access it through the router.  I have had it working in the past, but it has always been very flakey indeed.  That's using the Windows XP CMD ftp command or the FileZilla program to access.  I can access the server by local ftp address, so the server is alive.

It isn't clear to me how to set the router to route incoming ftp connections through to the NAS server, so any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Re: Can't get public access to our server

Hi there,

The entry in the local network list sounds like an old one.  When applying the firewall rule try manually typing the IP of the nas server where you select the device and see if it works that way.

Thanks

Re: Can't get public access to our server

I got it to work normally by clearing the list of computers - I seemed to have doubled-up entries, which I couldn't understand, but now it has sprung into life again.

One question you might be able to answer.  I am using a Dell D630, and I can access the NAS by http or by ftp, via local or public access with no bothers.  I also have a D610, and this can access the NAS by http but not by ftp.  Internet Explorer can't see its ftp connection, nor can I see it with the ftp command.  Any ideas, anyone?  Not quite the right place to ask, but while we're at it...

Thanks for your help.

Re: Can't get public access to our server

Under control, at last.  It was a firewall problem caused by the fact that I didn't have a Passive connection for my FTP.  That is a vital thing to do in these days of firewalls and other kinds of protection.  Just for your information...
